FAQ

What is FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) 3D printing?

FDM is a form of additive manufacturing where a material, usually a thermoplastic, is melted and extruded through a heated nozzle. The nozzle moves in a predetermined pattern, depositing layers of the material one on top of the other, fusing each one to the last to create a 3D model.

FDM is a popular and widely-used 3D printing technology, suitable for a variety of applications. It is known for its accuracy, durability, and ability to produce complex geometries.

What is MSLA (Masked Stereolithography Apparatus) 3D printing?

MSLA is an alternative form of SLA (Stereolithography) 3D printing. Like SLA, it uses a liquid resin that is cured layer by layer through exposure to ultraviolet light. However, instead of using a controlled laser beam to trace each layer, MSLA printing uses a UV light source and an LCD screen to mask it.

The LCD screen is placed between the UV light source and the resin tank, and displays the shape of each layer in the model. The areas where the screen allows the UV light to pass through cure the resin, while the areas that are blocked remain uncured. This process is repeated for each layer until the model is complete.

What services do you offer?

We currently offer both FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) and MSLA (Masked Stereolithography) printing. For more information on pricing, please contact us.

Which should I choose, FDM or MSLA for my 3D print?

The choice between FDM and MSLA printing depends on the specific needs of your project. Here are some factors to consider:

  • Material: FDM is generally used for printing with thermoplastics, while MSLA is better suited for printing with photopolymers. If your project requires a specific type of material, this may dictate which technology you use.

  • Detail: MSLA printing offers higher detail and accuracy than FDM printing, making it ideal for small or intricate parts. However, FDM printing can still produce highly detailed models with a little extra effort.

  • Cost: FDM printers are generally less expensive than MSLA printers, and the materials used for FDM printing are also more affordable. If cost is a major factor for your project, FDM printing may be the better choice.

  • Speed: FDM printing is generally faster than MSLA printing, which can be beneficial for larger or more complex models. However, MSLA printing can still produce high-quality prints relatively quickly.

Ultimately, the best choice for your project will depend on your specific needs and requirements. At our 3D printing service, we offer both FDM and MSLA printing options, and our team can help you determine which technology is best for your project.

What are the size limitations?

MSLA: 190mm x 110mm x 185mm
FDM: 350mm x 350mm x 380mm

What file type do you accept?

We accept most forms of 3D model files, including .stl, .3mf, and .obj. These are the most commonly used file types in the industry and are compatible with most 3D modeling software programs.

However, if you have a file in a different format, please feel free to contact us to discuss whether we can work with that format. We are committed to providing our clients with the highest level of service and will do our best to accommodate your needs.

Before submitting your file for printing, we recommend checking that it is in the correct format and that all components are properly aligned and scaled. This will help ensure that your 3D model is printed accurately and to your specifications.

If you have any questions or concerns about file types or the 3D printing process in general, please don't hesitate to contact us. Our team is always happy to help!

How much does shipping cost?

For shop orders with delivery to the UK, smaller items have free delivery and larger items and custom orders start at £0.99. International shipping prices vary depending on the country of destination. The exact shipping cost for international orders will be calculated at checkout based on the destination and the weight of the package.

For custom orders, the shipping cost will depend on the size and weight of the final product, as well as the destination. We will work out the shipping cost for your custom order when we provide you with a quote.

At Print Me Crazy, we strive to offer affordable shipping options to our customers while ensuring that all orders are delivered safely and on time. If you have any questions about shipping costs or delivery times, please don't hesitate to contact us.

How long will my order take?

For store orders, we aim to dispatch them within 3-5 working days. However, please note that this timeframe may vary depending on the size and complexity of your order.

Custom orders, on the other hand, can vary greatly in terms of production time. The timeframe will depend on the item and the printing process required. When you submit a request for a custom order, we will provide you with a quote that includes an estimated production time. This will give you a more accurate idea of how long your order will take to complete.

Please keep in mind that unforeseen circumstances, such as equipment malfunction or unexpected material shortages, can sometimes cause delays. If this happens, we will do our best to keep you informed and provide you with an updated timeline for your order.

If you have any questions or concerns about the production time for your order, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Can I collect my 3D prints instead of delivery?

We don’t currently offer local pick-up at this time.

Can I cancel my custom 3D print order once placed?

We understand that sometimes plans change, and you may need to cancel your custom order. If work on your order has not yet begun, we can cancel your order free of charge, and you will be refunded any money that you have already paid.

However, if work on your order has already started, then you will be charged for any materials that have been used, as well as an administrative fee of £10. This is because we begin the production process as soon as possible to ensure timely delivery, and materials used cannot be reused for other projects.

If you need to cancel your order, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know. Our team will work with you to determine whether work has started and what charges, if any, will apply.
